Intelligence, Heart, and a Coat You Won't Find on Your Couch
A multi-generational Aussiechon program built on intentional breeding, verified health testing, and a structured eight-week curriculum.
What Is an Aussiechon?
An Aussiechon is a cross between a Miniature American Shepherd and a Bichon Frise. When thoughtfully bred, this pairing combines the intelligence and athleticism of the Mini Aussie with the cheerful, easygoing nature of the Bichon โ along with a lower to non-shedding coat and a highly people-oriented temperament.
At Trailside, our goal is not to produce random mixes. We are intentionally building a structured, multi-generational program designed to preserve the strengths of both breeds while selecting carefully for temperament, coat predictability, and health.
Why We Chose This Cross
We chose the Bichon Frise very intentionally. The Bichon brings a naturally non-shedding coat, a sturdy and healthy small-breed structure, a balanced muzzle, and a stable and confident temperament โ lap-dog affection with playful energy, and intelligence without excessive intensity.
Bichons are cheerful, adaptable, and deeply bonded to their people. They are typically not sharp, nervous, or high-strung. When paired thoughtfully with the Miniature American Shepherd, the result is a dog that is smart and biddable, athletic but with an off switch, playful yet cuddly, and deeply family-oriented.

Health Testing That Actually Means Something
We believe Trailside Aussiechons are among the most comprehensively health tested in the country. Both parents carry verified OFA certifications and full genetic panels โ and every result is publicly searchable at ofa.org so you can confirm it yourself.
Coco is a sweet, gentle Bichon Frise with an outstanding temperament and two previous litters of healthy, well-structured puppies. Her health panel is among the most comprehensive you will find on a Bichon Frise anywhere โ every result is verified and publicly searchable on OFA's database.
Why Coco's CDDY Result Is Exceptional
Coco is N/N for Chondrodystrophy โ homozygous normal, meaning she carries two copies of the healthy gene. She cannot pass IVDD risk to any offspring regardless of the stud. IVDD is the spinal disc disease that causes sudden paralysis and costs $5,000โ$10,000 in emergency surgery. Most Bichon breeders never test for this. Coco's result is the gold standard.
Chief is our red merle, toy-size Miniature American Shepherd stud โ compact, confident, and exactly the kind of sire we want contributing intelligence, trainability, and beautiful color genetics to our Aussiechon puppies. His Embark DNA panel came back clear for all tested conditions.
Chief turns 24 months in October 2026 โ the minimum age for official OFA hip and elbow certification. His remaining evaluations are actively being scheduled. This page will be updated as each result is received.
Eight Weeks of Intentional Raising
